Keep the fire burning with CareerTrackers Partnership

NIDA Corporate Training has been in collaboration with Travis Cardona, the Director of First Nations & Outreach NIDA and CareerTrackers to deliver a program that supports First Nations professionals to enhance their workplace presentation and communication skills to achieve their goals.

Travis Cardona, is a saltwater man from Malak Malak, Iwaidja, and Torres Strait Islander heritage, and a esteemed NIDA acting alumnus. His extensive experience spans film, TV, theatre, and Indigenous policy and stakeholder relationships. Now, he works alongside NIDA’s First Nations Consultant, Rhoda Roberts AO, and Elder-in-Residence, Matthew Doyle, to support First Nations students and foster collaboration and awareness of First Nations culture, creativity and storytelling.

“By creating pathways for First Nations people to express our stories on the stage, screen, and behind the scenes, we can be the fire that burns cool and positively influence our communities,” said Travis.

CareerTrackers, a fundamental not-for-profit organisation, collaborates with partner universities and workplaces to reduce educational and employment barriers for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. This partnership model focuses on co-designing solutions to close the gap through paid internships. Inspired by this approach, NIDA has partnered with CareerTrackers to offer NIDA Corporate Training for a more collaborative future.

After participating in NIDA Corporate Training himself, Travis has worked closely with the NIDA Corporate Training team and CareerTrackers to develop the ‘Present to Influence’ program for graduates. This program helps participants manage nerves, develop vocal and physical presence, and master the art of presenting, all while staying true to their authentic voice.

“Confidence in the workplace is crucial for professional success. We are really proud to deliver the ‘Present to Influence’ training to empower young First Nations professionals. Our partnership with CareerTrackers really enables us to give young professionals the confidence and skills that we teach at NIDA to grow within their career and communities” said Travis.

“The feedback we’ve received from both our intern and alumni communities has been incredibly positive, with many expressing their appreciation for the insights and perspectives brought to the table. I know that your yarn will have sparked many meaningful discussions.” said Darcee Duroux in relation to their experience working with Travis and NIDA Corporate Training.

NIDA acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which we learn and tell stories, the Bidjigal, Gadigal, Dharawal and Dharug peoples, and we pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past and present.
